Built to Withstand the Rigors of Military Environments

Military man-pack radios

Military test environments are notorious for their relentless pace. RF components get pushed to their limits, enduring countless connection cycles and disconnections. When you're calibrating vital equipment before deployment, you don't want to face the failure of a connector after just a few cycles. With our extended mating cycle connectors and adapters, that scenario becomes a distant memory.

Our connectors and cable assemblies have been designed and built with resilience as the top priority. We’re always keen to stay on top of the latest Sensor Open Systems Architecture™ (SOSA) specifications, and we have a specific advantage in this area.

Since 2018, we have been an active member of the Open Group SOSA™ consortium, which collaboratively develops open standard architecture.  As part of the electro-mechanical and hardware working groups, we have been at the forefront of establishing the SMPM and SMPS standards.

Our commitment is to work on increasing RF density and bandwidth through our communications products while reducing the overall footprint of the design. We’ll take you through the advantages of our solutions for those working in the defense sector:

Protecting the safety of field operatives

Made to the highly resilient standards of our existing line of SMA connectors, our black chrome versions have a fully non-reflective finish. Communication operatives can gain a tactical advantage by using these in equipment such as man-pack radios. Unlike connectors with a shiny stainless steel finish, this equipment won't reveal their position by glinting in the light, leaving them undetected.

Visual convenience for rapidly making correct connections

Correct mating is essential when pressured for time, especially in a military environment. We have produced a line of four keyed SMA cable assemblies in unique configurations. These have been made in a small, easy-to-use form factor with an interface that is very simple for IO panel operatives to identify, enabling them to make appropriate connections at a moment’s notice.

Transmit electrical signals over long distances

Designed with extreme durability, our series of VITA 66.5 RF/fiber hybrid connectors can endure harsh environments and very high temperatures. These hybrid modules can be implemented side-by-side with other VITA connector standards. You’re provided with RF and fiber optic connections that are SOSA-compliant and are ready to work with VPX platforms.

VITA 66.5 RF/Fiber Hybrid Connectors

VPX-compatible modules for routing and processing RF signals in embedded systems

Our VITA RF 67.1, .2, and .3 product lines are ready to support the entire RF signal path of an embedded system. These coaxial products consist of:

  • cable assemblies
  • contacts
  • adapters
  • backplane and plug-in modules
  • installation and removal tools
  • These components and tools meet SOSA standards and are ideal for VITA SMPM and SMPS applications, enabling intermateability.

Secure locking SMP/SMPM RF cable assemblies for a high-vibration environment

Our secure locking QuarterBack® (QB) RF cable assemblies use a quarter-turn bayonet-style coupling nut. The assemblies are ready to lock with other QB SMP/SMPM interfaces. The spring-loaded bayonet lock secures push-on connections, preventing accidental disconnects.
They deliver exceptional electrical performance with low VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio), reaching 40 GHz for SMP connectors and 65 GHz for SMPM connectors, ensuring minimal signal loss across a wide frequency range.
Furthermore, they cater to various flexible cable needs, with female connector options available for all cable types up to .086 inches in diameter. A significant advantage is the significantly reduced insertion and extraction forces compared to traditional full-detent SMP and SMPM connectors. This results in less stress on the solder joints of board-mounted connectors during connection cycles.

Secure Locking SMP/SMPM RF Cable Assemblies

A new line of threaded SMPM connectors for applications demanding rock-solid performance in harsh environments

We recently produced a line of threaded SMPM connectors and adapters. These innovative connectors maintain the familiar SMPM RF interface while incorporating a threaded coupling nut.
The ingenious design significantly reduces the force required for mating and de-mating, making them ideal when you want a reliable, torqued connection. Crucially, this enhanced security doesn't come at the expense of performance - these connectors have superior electrical and mechanical characteristics.

Threaded SMPM Connectors and Adapters

Take on intense dust and water with our protected RF components

Designed to conquer rigorous environments and harsh elements, our waterproof (IP68-rated) RF cable assemblies and interconnects keep your equipment functioning flawlessly. These solutions feature internal O-rings, sealing unmated connectors, making them perfect for harsh-environment applications and ensuring no dust, liquid, or gas breaches the connection.

Waterproof (IP68 Rated) RF Cable Assemblies and Interconnects

Making the proper connection is crucial

With our precision-designed components incorporated into your designs, you can be assured of your systems performing flawlessly under demanding conditions. Our millimeter wave products are ready to help you take on recent trends for high bandwidths, strong directionality, and smaller physical footprints.
Whether you're setting up next-generation communication equipment or ruggedized radar systems, our range of connectors, cable assemblies, and connectors are a highly reliable fit for military applications.
